Description

Creamy, tangy, and slightly sweet—this classic Southern coleslaw is the perfect BBQ side dish! With crisp cabbage, crunchy carrots, and a flavorful dressing, it’s a must-have for cookouts, picnics, and potlucks.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 cups shredded green cabbage
  • 1 cup shredded purple cabbage
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey or sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Vegetables – In a large mixing bowl, combine green cabbage, purple cabbage, and shredded carrots.
2️⃣ Make the Dressing – In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, honey (or sugar), celery seed, salt, and black pepper.
3️⃣ Combine & Mix – Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss well to coat evenly.
4️⃣ Chill & Serve – Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld. Serve cold and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a tangier coleslaw, add a splash of lemon juice or extra vinegar.
  • Swap honey for sugar for a more traditional taste.
  • If you like a lighter dressing, use Greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise.
  • Great as a side dish or as a topping for pulled pork sandwiches and burgers.
