Description

Indulge in the creamy richness of this old-fashioned chocolate fudge, made with Hershey’s cocoa, butter, sugar, and a hint of vanilla. This classic, melt-in-your-mouth treat is perfect for holidays, gifting, or satisfying your chocolate cravings. Ready in just 20 minutes, it’s a timeless homemade delight!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (Hershey’s recommended)
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan – Line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper or lightly grease it with butter.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients – In a medium saucepan, whisk together sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.
  3. Add Milk & Butter – Pour in milk and add the butter (cut into chunks for even melting).
  4. Heat & Boil – Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches a rolling boil. Stop stirring and let it boil undisturbed until it reaches 234°F (112°C) on a candy thermometer (soft-ball stage).
  5. Cool Without Stirring – Remove from heat and let it sit without stirring for about 5 minutes, until it cools slightly.
  6. Beat Until Creamy – Add vanilla extract and beat vigorously with a wooden spoon for 5-7 minutes, until the mixture thickens and loses its shine.
  7. Pour & Set – Quickly pour the fudge into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Let it cool at room temperature for at least 2 hours before cutting into squares.
  8. Slice & Enjoy – Cut into small squares and enjoy this rich, creamy, and classic chocolate fudge!

Notes

  • No candy thermometer? Drop a small amount of hot fudge into cold water—if it forms a soft ball, it’s ready!
  • For extra richness, stir in 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) before pouring into the pan.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week, or refrigerate for 2-3 weeks.
