Ingredients

Units Scale

Meat:

  • 1 1/2 lbs beef tips

Produce:

  • 2 tbsp garlic (minced)
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 1 sprig fresh rosemary
  • 1 sprig fresh thyme

Canned Goods:

  • 2 cups beef broth

Condiments:

  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

Baking & Spices:

  • 1/3 cup flour (for dredging)
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

Oils & Vinegars:

  • 3 tbsp olive oil

Beer, Wine & Liquor:

  • 1/2 cup dry red wine

Instructions

Prepare the Beef Tips:

  1. Season and Dredge:
    • Season the beef tips with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Lightly dredge in flour, shaking off any excess.

Sear the Beef:

  1. Heat the Oil:
    • In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat 2 tbsp olive oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Brown the Beef Tips:
    • Add the beef tips to the skillet in batches, searing until browned on all sides (about 3–4 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.

Build the Flavor:

  1. Sauté Aromatics:
    • Add the remaining 1 tbsp olive oil to the skillet. Sauté the sliced onion and minced garlic until softened and fragrant, about 3–4 minutes.
  2. Deglaze the Pan:
    • Pour in the red wine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Simmer for 2 minutes.

Simmer the Beef Tips:

  1. Add Liquids and Herbs:
    • Stir in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, rosemary, and thyme. Return the seared beef tips to the skillet, ensuring they are submerged in the liquid.
  2. Simmer:
    • Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30–35 minutes, or until the beef is tender.

Thicken the Sauce (Optional):

  1. Adjust the Sauce:
    • If the sauce is too thin, remove the lid and simmer uncovered for an additional 5–10 minutes until it thickens to your desired consistency.

Serve:

  1. Plate and Garnish:
    • Serve the beef tips over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Garnish with additional rosemary or thyme if desired.

Notes

  • Substitute red wine with additional beef broth if preferred.
  • For added depth, toss in mushrooms or carrots while simmering.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
