Description

Make dinner easy with this Hamburger Potato Casserole! Layers of seasoned ground beef, tender potatoes, and creamy mushroom sauce topped with melted cheddar cheese. A comforting classic perfect for any night.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 (10.5-ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • Salt and ground black pepper, to taste
  • 3 cups peeled and thinly sliced potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the Ground Beef:
    • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned and crumbly, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess grease and set aside.
  3. Make the Sauce:
    • In a medium bowl, combine condensed cream of mushroom soup, milk, chopped onion, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.
  4. Layer the Casserole:
    • In a 2-quart baking dish, layer the ingredients in the following order:
      • Thinly sliced potatoes
      • A portion of the soup mixture
      • Browned ground beef
    • Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with the soup mixture on top.
  5. Bake:
    • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1 to 1 ½ hours, or until the potatoes are tender.
  6. Add Cheese:
    • Remove the foil and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top. Return the dish to the oven and bake for another 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Serve:
    • Let the casserole cool for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm!

Notes

  • For added flavor, sauté the onions with the ground beef before layering.
  • Substitute cream of mushroom soup with cream of chicken or celery for a different twist.
  • Add extra veggies like peas, carrots, or bell peppers to make it heartier.
