Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Beef and Broccoli:

  • 1 lb top sirloin steak, trimmed and thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil, divided
  • 3 cups broccoli florets

For the Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients
    • Slice the sirloin steak thinly across the grain into bite-sized pieces.
    • In a bowl, combine all sauce ingredients and whisk until smooth.
  2. Cook the Broccoli
    • Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over high heat until shimmering.
    • Add the broccoli and stir-fry for 4-5 minutes until tender-crisp. Transfer to a plate.
  3. Cook the Beef
    • Heat the remaining 1 tbsp olive oil in the same skillet.
    • Spread the sliced beef in a single layer and let it sear undisturbed for 1 minute.
    • Stir and cook for an additional minute until slightly rare to prevent toughness.
  4. Combine and Finish
    • Return the broccoli to the skillet. Pour the sauce over the beef and broccoli.
    • Stir well, allowing the sauce to coat the ingredients and thicken, about 1-3 minutes.
  5. Serve
    • Remove from heat and serve immediately. Pair with steamed rice for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Substitute chicken or tofu for a different protein.
  • Adjust the sweetness or saltiness of the sauce by modifying the sugar or soy sauce quantities.
  • Add other vegetables like bell peppers or carrots for variety.
