For the Frangipane Filling:
- 1 cup almond flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 5 tbsp salted butter (softened)
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp almond extract
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp kosher salt
For the Rolls:
- 1 (12-count) package King’s Hawaiian Sweet Rolls (or brioche rolls)
- Unsalted butter (for greasing)
For the Topping:
- 1 large egg + 1 tbsp whole milk (for egg wash)
- 1/3 cup sliced almonds
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Frangipane Filling
- In a mixing bowl, combine almond flour, sugar, softened butter, egg, almond extract, vanilla extract, and salt.
- Mix until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
Step 2: Prepare the Rolls
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with unsalted butter.
- Slice the King’s Hawaiian Rolls in half horizontally, keeping them connected as a whole sheet.
- Spread the almond frangipane filling evenly over the bottom half.
- Place the top half of the rolls back on, pressing gently.
Step 3: Add Toppings & Bake
- In a small bowl, whisk together egg and milk to make an egg wash.
- Brush the tops of the rolls with egg wash, then sprinkle with sliced almonds.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and slightly crispy on top.
Step 4: Serve & Enjoy
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
- Dust with powdered sugar, then slice and serve warm.
