Description

Turkish Gözleme is a delicious, crispy stuffed flatbread filled with savory spinach and feta cheese. This traditional street food is easy to make at home, requiring just a few ingredients for the dough and a flavorful filling. Enjoy it hot off the pan, paired with yogurt or lemon wedges for an authentic touch!

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Filling:

  • 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped
  • 1 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for brushing)

Instructions

  • Make the Dough: In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Gradually add warm water and olive oil, kneading until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
  • Prepare the Filling: In a separate bowl, combine spinach, feta, mozzarella (if using), black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  • Roll Out the Dough: Divide dough into 4 equal pieces and roll each into a thin circle.
  • Fill and Fold: Spread the spinach and feta mixture over half of each dough round, then fold over and press edges to seal.
  • Cook the Gözleme: Heat a large pan over medium heat. Brush each gözleme with olive oil and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve: Enjoy hot, optionally with yogurt or lemon wedges.

Notes

  • Swap spinach for kale or add chopped fresh herbs for extra flavor.
  • Brush with butter instead of olive oil for a richer taste.
  • Serve with garlic yogurt sauce or Turkish tea for an authentic experience.
