Description

Soft, golden, and slightly crispy on the edges, this authentic Irish potato bread—also known as potato farls—is a staple of Irish breakfasts. Made with simple ingredients, it’s delicious served with butter or alongside a full Irish breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (warm, no added milk or butter)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the warm mashed potatoes with salt and melted butter.
  2. Gradually add the flour and baking powder, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thick.
  4. Cut into four equal wedges (farls).
  5. Heat a dry skillet or griddle over medium heat. Cook the farls for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown.
  6. Serve warm with butter or as part of a traditional Irish breakfast.

Notes
