- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch + 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, water, rice vinegar, and sesame oil.
- Stir in garlic and ginger, then bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry.
- Slowly whisk the slurry into the sauce, stirring continuously until thickened.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Stir in sesame seeds if desired and use immediately or store in an airtight container.
Notes
- Store in the fridge for up to 1 week in a sealed container.
- Adjust sweetness by using more or less honey/brown sugar.
- For a smoky flavor, add a dash of liquid smoke.
- Make it gluten-free by using tamari or coconut aminos instead of soy sauce.
