Description

These homemade hamburger patties are packed with flavor and cook up perfectly juicy every time. Whether grilled or cooked on the stovetop, they’re ideal for backyard BBQs, cookouts, or a simple family dinner.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)
  • 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 egg (optional, for extra binding)
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for added texture)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mixture: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onion, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. If using, add the egg and breadcrumbs. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Shape the Patties: Divide the mixture into 4-6 equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty about ¾-inch thick, pressing a small indentation in the center to prevent puffing.
  3. Chill (Optional): For best results, refrigerate the patties for 30 minutes before cooking to help them hold their shape.
  4. Cook the Patties:
    • Grill Method: Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Cook patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
    • Stovetop Method: Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side until fully cooked.
  5. Assemble and Serve: Place patties on toasted hamburger buns and add your favorite toppings such as lettuce, tomato, pickles, cheese, and sauces.

Notes

  • 80/20 ground beef ensures the juiciest patties.
  • Breadcrumbs and egg help with binding, especially if using leaner beef.
  • Pressing an indentation in the center prevents the burgers from puffing up while cooking.
  • Letting the patties rest for a few minutes before serving enhances flavor and juiciness.
