Description

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Cheese Filling:

  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg yolk

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough:

    • In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk with 1 teaspoon of sugar.
    • Let sit for 5-10 minutes, until foamy.
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and remaining sugar.
    • Add melted butter, egg, vanilla, and yeast mixture.
    • Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
    • Cover and let rise for 1 hour, until doubled in size.
  • Make the Filling:

    • In a bowl, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and egg yolk until smooth.
  • Assemble the Buns:

    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Divide dough into 10-12 balls and flatten slightly.
    • Make an indentation in the center of each bun and fill with 1-2 tablespoons of the cheese mixture.
    • Let rest for 15 minutes.
  • Bake:

    • Bake for 15-18 minutes, until golden brown.
  • Serve:

    • Let cool slightly before serving.
