Description

These Louisiana Voodoo Fries are bold, cheesy, and packed with Cajun flavor! Crispy fries are smothered in a creamy white cheddar ranch sauce with a spicy Cajun kick. Perfect as an appetizer, party snack, or game-day treat, this 30-minute recipe is an irresistible crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Fries

  • 26 oz frozen French fries (or homemade fries)

For the Cajun Ranch Cheese Sauce

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground white or black pepper
  • 2 tsp ranch seasoning powder (or more, to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper, divided
  • 8 oz white cheddar cheese, shredded

Instructions

1. Bake or Air Fry the Fries

  1. Preheat oven or air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Arrange French fries in a single layer on a baking sheet or air fryer basket.
  3. Bake or air fry according to package instructions until golden and crispy.

2. Make the Cajun Cheese Sauce

  1. In a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Whisk in flour and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  2. Gradually whisk in milk (½ cup at a time), stirring to keep the sauce smooth.
  3. Stir in salt, pepper, ranch seasoning, and ¼ tsp cayenne pepper.
  4. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook, stirring, for 5 minutes until thickened.
  5. Add shredded white cheddar cheese, stirring until fully melted and creamy.

3. Assemble & Serve

  1. Transfer crispy fries to a serving platter.
  2. Pour the Cajun ranch cheese sauce evenly over the fries.
  3. Sprinkle with the remaining ¼ tsp cayenne pepper.
  4. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra heat, add more cayenne or hot sauce to the cheese sauce.
  • Use freshly shredded cheese for the smoothest melt—pre-shredded cheese contains anti-caking agents that affect texture.
  • Make-ahead tip: The cheese sauce can be made up to 5 days in advance and reheated over low heat.
  • Reheating leftovers: Reheat fries in an oven at 350°F for 5-10 minutes, or air fry for 5 minutes at 350°F.
