Description

For the Filling:

  • 1 lb ground beef or chicken
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheese (optional)

For the Pastry:

  • 1 package (2 sheets) store-bought puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning

Instructions

1. Prepare the Filling:

  1. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add onions and garlic, sautéing until soft and fragrant.
  3. Add ground meat, breaking it up as it cooks.
  4. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and thyme.
  5. Cook until fully browned, then remove from heat.
  6. Let cool slightly and mix in shredded cheese if using.

2. Assemble the Hand Pies:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out puff pastry and cut into equal-sized rectangles.
  3. Spoon a portion of the filling onto half of the rectangles, leaving space around the edges.
  4. Place another rectangle of pastry on top and press the edges together with a fork to seal.
  5. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning.

3. Bake & Serve:

  1. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  2. Let cool slightly before serving.
  3. Enjoy with a side of vegetables, salad, or a warm soup!
