Description

A classic Portuguese sandwich featuring thin, marinated pork cutlets, pan-fried to perfection, and served in a crusty roll with sautéed onions and peppers. A flavorful and satisfying street food favorite!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb pork loin, thinly sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 4 Portuguese rolls (papo secos)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the pork: In a bowl, mix garlic, paprika, salt, pepper, oregano, and white wine. Add pork slices and marinate for at least 1 hour.
  2. Cook the pork: Heat olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Fry the pork slices until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  3. Sauté vegetables: In the same pan, melt butter and sauté onions and bell peppers until soft and slightly caramelized.
  4. Assemble the sandwich: Toast the Portuguese rolls, then fill them with the pork and sautéed vegetables.
  5. Serve: Enjoy hot with mustard, piri-piri sauce, or a drizzle of olive oil.

Notes

  • For an authentic taste, use papo secos (Portuguese crusty rolls).
  • Adjust the spice level by adding piri-piri sauce or chili flakes to the marinade.
  • Serve with a side of fries or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
