- 2 jars (32 oz each) of your favorite marinara sauce
- Pasta & Grains:
- 1/4 lb corkscrew pasta
- 1/4 lb shell pasta
- 1/4 lb spiral pasta
- Baking & Spices:
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
- Dairy:
- 8 oz mozzarella cheese (shredded)
- 8 oz Parmesan cheese (grated)
Instructions
1. Cook the Pasta:
- Boil all three pasta types together in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
2. Prepare the Meat Mixture:
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook Italian sausage and hamburger until browned. Drain excess grease.
- Add the pepperoni, green bell pepper, onion, and mushrooms to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are softened.
3. Combine with Sauce:
- Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend.
4. Assemble the Cavatini:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large baking dish, layer as follows:
- Cooked pasta
- Meat and sauce mixture
- Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese
- Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a generous layer of cheese on top.
5. Bake:
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
6. Serve:
- Let the Cavatini rest for 5 minutes before serving.
