Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Pecan Topping:

  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 1/2 cups pecan halves

For the Cake:

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 package (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Make the Pecan Topping: Pour melted butter into the baking pan. Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over the butter, then arrange pecan halves on top.
  3. Prepare the Cake Batter: In a large bowl, combine cake mix, vanilla pudding mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth.
  4. Assemble & Bake: Carefully pour the cake batter over the pecan topping, spreading evenly. Bake for 40–45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Flip & Cool: Let the cake cool in the pan for 5–10 minutes, then carefully invert it onto a serving plate while still warm.
  6. Serve & Enjoy: Slice and serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • For extra caramel flavor, add 1 tbsp maple syrup to the pecan topping.
  • Use a butter pecan cake mix instead of yellow cake for more richness.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
