- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast

- 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)

Make the Dough:
- In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

Knead the Dough:
- In a large bowl, mix flour and salt.
- Add melted butter and the yeast mixture.
- Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.

Shape the Toutons:
- Punch down the dough and divide into 8-10 pieces.
- Flatten slightly into rounds about ½ inch thick.

Fry the Toutons:
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Fry each piece for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and puffy.

- Enjoy warm with molasses, butter, or maple syrup!
Notes
- For a lighter texture, let the shaped dough rest for 10-15 minutes before frying.
- For a baked version, bake at 375°F (190°C) for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
