Description

Crispy, golden, and perfectly seasoned, these homemade potato chips are an irresistible snack! Made with just a few simple ingredients, they’re fresher and crunchier than store-bought chips. Perfect for snacking, parties, or as a side dish.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 large russet potatoes (or Yukon Gold)
  • 3 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Potatoes: Wash and peel the potatoes (optional). Using a mandoline slicer or a sharp knife, slice them as thinly as possible (about 1/16 inch thick).
  • Soak: Place the potato slices in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for 30 minutes. This removes excess starch for extra crispiness.
  • Dry the Potatoes: Drain and pat the slices completely dry with a paper towel.
  • Heat the Oil: In a deep pan or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry in Batches: Fry small batches of potato slices, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and crispy (about 3–5 minutes per batch).
  • Drain and Season: Remove chips with a slotted spoon, place them on a paper towel-lined plate, and immediately sprinkle with salt and optional seasonings.
  • Cool & Serve: Let them cool slightly before enjoying!

Notes

  • For baked potato chips, preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C), coat slices with oil, and bake for 15–20 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • For air fryer potato chips, cook at 360°F (180°C) for 15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway.
  • Experiment with seasonings like cheddar powder, BBQ spice, or ranch seasoning for different flavors!
