Pie Crust:
- 1 single pie crust (homemade or store-bought) – try our Flaky Butter Crust recipe!
Maple Filling:
- 1 1/2 cups pure maple syrup (Grade A Dark recommended)
- 6 tbsp butter
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 tbsp unbleached white flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
- Set oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the Maple Filling:
- In a heavy saucepan, bring maple syrup to a gentle boil over medium heat.
- Let it cook for 5 minutes, reducing the heat if necessary.
- Remove from heat and stir in the butter until melted.
- Stir in the heavy cream.
- Thicken the Filling:
- Transfer ½ cup of the maple mixture to a small bowl.
- Whisk in the flour and salt, then whisk this mixture back into the saucepan.
- Incorporate the Eggs:
- In a small bowl, beat the eggs.
- Slowly whisk them into the maple mixture until smooth.
- Assemble the Pie:
- Roll out the pie dough and fit it into a 9-inch pie plate.
- Pour the warm maple filling into the pie shell.
- Bake the Pie:
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the center is golden brown, bubbly, and set with a slight jiggle.
- Cool & Serve:
- Let the pie cool at room temperature for at least 1-2 hours before slicing.
- Serve as is or with a dollop of whipped cream!
