Units Scale

For the Dough:

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg

For the Filling:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

For the Maple Pecan Topping:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough:

    • In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
    • Add flour, melted butter, egg, and salt. Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
    • Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
  • Make the Topping:

    • In a saucepan, melt butter with brown sugar and maple syrup. Stir until smooth.
    • Pour into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and sprinkle with pecans.
  • Make the Filling:

    • Mix brown sugar and cinnamon.
    • Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread with softened butter.
    • Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar evenly. Roll the dough tightly and cut into 12 slices.
  • Assemble & Bake:

    • Place the rolls over the maple pecan topping.
    • Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.

  • Invert & Serve:

    • Immediately flip onto a serving tray so the gooey maple pecan topping coats the buns.
    • Serve warm!

Notes

  • For extra maple flavor, add ½ tsp maple extract to the topping.
  • Make ahead by refrigerating the assembled rolls overnight, then bake in the morning.
  • Serve with a sprinkle of sea salt for a sweet-salty contrast.
