Description

A rich, creamy, and cheesy baked macaroni and cheese with a crispy golden topping—perfect for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 12 oz elbow macaroni
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs

  • 2 tbsp melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook macaroni according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in milk and cream, stirring constantly until thickened.
  5. Stir in mustard, salt, pepper, paprika, and cheeses (reserving some for topping). Mix until smooth.
  6. Add cooked pasta and stir to coat. Transfer to the prepared baking dish.
  7. In a small bowl, combine breadcrumbs with melted butter. Sprinkle over macaroni and cheese.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden brown. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Want it extra creamy? Add an extra 1/2 cup of heavy cream.
  • For a smokier flavor, use smoked cheddar or add a dash of smoked paprika.
  • Prefer a crispier topping? Broil for the last 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
