Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Brownies:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Chocolate Icing:

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Make the Brownies:

  1. Preheat the Oven – Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients – In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, cocoa powder, and sugar until smooth.
  3. Add Eggs & Vanilla – Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Incorporate Dry Ingredients – Gently mix in the flour and salt until just combined. Do not overmix!
  5. Bake – Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  6. Cool Slightly – Let the brownies cool for about 10 minutes before adding the icing.

Make the Chocolate Icing:

  1. Prepare the Frosting – In a bowl, whisk together melted butter, cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla. Gradually stir in the powdered sugar until smooth and spreadable.
  2. Frost the Brownies – While the brownies are still warm, spread the icing evenly over the top. It will set into a glossy, fudgy layer.
  3. Cool & Slice – Allow the brownies to cool completely before slicing into squares. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra fudginess, underbake slightly and let them set as they cool.
  • Make it nutty! Stir in 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans for added crunch.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
