Description

This Authentic Italian White Pizza (Pizza Bianca) is a rich, cheesy delight featuring a creamy white sauce, fresh mozzarella, ricotta, and Pecorino Romano. With a crispy, golden crust and fragrant basil topping, this classic Italian pizza is simple to make and perfect for a weeknight dinner or a gourmet pizza night at home.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Pizza:

  • 16 oz fresh pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a slight kick)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2/3 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Pecorino Romano cheese, grated
  • 6 fresh basil leaves, torn

Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough:

  1. Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.
  2. On a floured surface, stretch or roll out the pizza dough into a 12-inch circle.
  3. Transfer the dough to a parchment-lined pizza peel or baking sheet.

2. Make the White Sauce Base:

  1. In a small bowl, mix olive oil, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, and salt.
  2. Brush this mixture evenly over the pizza dough.

3. Assemble the Pizza:

  1. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese evenly over the base.
  2. Dollop small spoonfuls of ricotta cheese around the pizza.
  3. Sprinkle with Pecorino Romano cheese for extra flavor.

4. Bake the Pizza:

  1. Transfer the pizza onto the preheated stone or baking sheet and bake for 8–12 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.

5. Garnish & Serve:

  1. Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately top with fresh basil leaves.
  2. Drizzle with a little extra virgin olive oil before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a crispier crust, bake the pizza directly on a pizza stone or steel.
  • Add extra toppings like caramelized onions, mushrooms, or prosciutto for a gourmet twist.
  • If using homemade dough, allow it to rest at room temperature for 30 minutes before stretching.
  • Serve with a side of balsamic glaze or garlic butter for dipping!
