Description

Crispy, tangy, and perfectly seasoned potato chips with a bold ketchup flavor—a true Canadian snack classic!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large russet potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons tomato powder (or ketchup powder)
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar powder (optional, for extra tang)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for spice)

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prep:

    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Slice & Soak:

    • Wash and thinly slice the potatoes using a mandoline or sharp knife.
    • Soak the potato slices in cold water for 15-20 minutes to remove excess starch.
    • Drain and pat dry with a paper towel.
  • Coat & Bake:

    • In a large bowl, toss the potato slices with olive oil until evenly coated.
    • Arrange the slices in a single layer on the baking sheet.
    • Bake for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.
  • Make the Ketchup Seasoning:

    • While the chips bake, mix tomato powder, vinegar powder, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and cayenne in a small bowl.

  • Season & Serve:

    • Remove the chips from the oven and immediately toss them in the ketchup seasoning while still warm.
    • Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, bake at low heat (300°F/150°C) for a longer time (30-35 minutes).
  • Air-fryer option: Cook at 350°F (175°C) for 10-12 minutes, shaking halfway.
  • No tomato powder? Blend dried tomato slices into a fine powder using a spice grinder.

  • Add extra tang by spritzing chips with a little vinegar before seasoning.
