Description

A deliciously puffy and caramelized German apple pancake, baked to golden perfection and dusted with powdered sugar for a cozy, comforting breakfast.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Powdered sugar (for serving)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Place butter in a 9-inch ovenproof skillet or baking dish and melt over medium heat.
  • Add the apple slices and brown sugar, cooking for 3-4 minutes until caramelized.
  • In a blender, combine eggs, flour, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt. Blend until smooth.
  • Pour the batter over the caramelized apples and transfer the skillet to the oven.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the pancake puffs up and turns golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let it deflate slightly.
  • Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use Honeycrisp or Granny Smith apples for the best flavor.
  • Add a drizzle of maple syrup or honey for extra sweetness.
  • Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for a dessert twist.
