Description

Golden and crispy on the outside, juicy and flavorful on the inside, these oven-fried garlic mushrooms make the perfect appetizer or side dish. A healthier alternative to deep-fried mushrooms with all the crunch and flavor!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 12 large button mushrooms (or baby portobello)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs (or flax eggs for vegan option)
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan (optional)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for drizzling)

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prepare the Baking Sheet:

    • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the Mushrooms:

    • Clean mushrooms with a damp paper towel and trim the stems.
  • Set Up the Breading Station:

    • Place flour in one bowl.
    • Beat eggs in another bowl.
    • In the third bowl, mix panko, Parmesan (if using), garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  • Coat the Mushrooms:

    • Dredge each mushroom in flour, then dip in beaten egg, and finally coat in the breadcrumb mixture.
    • Place the mushrooms on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake Until Crispy:

    • Lightly drizzle olive oil over the mushrooms.
    • Bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway, until crispy and golden brown.
  • Serve & Enjoy:

    • Serve warm with a dipping sauce of choice, like garlic aioli, ranch, or spicy sriracha mayo.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, spray mushrooms lightly with cooking spray before baking.
  • Swap panko for gluten-free breadcrumbs for a gluten-free version.
