Ingredients

Units Scale

Chocolate Layer:

  • 1 1/2 cups crushed chocolate cookies or cake
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (optional, for binding)

Cream Layer:

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Custard or Curd Layer:

  • 1 1/2 cups vanilla custard or lemon curd

Toppings:

  • Whipped cream for piping
  • Mini chocolate eggs
  • Edible flowers (optional)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

1. Prepare the Chocolate Base:

  • Mix crushed chocolate cookies with melted butter (if using).
  • Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of a trifle dish to form a firm base.

2. Add the Cream Layer:

  • In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
  • Spread half of the whipped cream over the chocolate base.

3. Add the Custard Layer:

  • Gently pour or spoon the custard or lemon curd over the cream layer, spreading evenly.

4. Repeat the Layers:

  • Add another layer of whipped cream for a smooth, creamy texture.

5. Decorate the Top:

  • Pipe decorative swirls of whipped cream around the edges.
  • Arrange mini chocolate eggs on top for a festive touch.
  • Garnish with edible flowers and dust lightly with powdered sugar.

6. Chill & Serve:

  • Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the layers to set beautifully.

Notes

  • For a crunchier texture, use crushed chocolate chip cookies instead of cake.
  • Lemon curd adds a tangy contrast to the chocolate, while vanilla custard keeps it classic.
  • If making ahead, assemble the trifle up to 24 hours in advance and store it chilled.
  • Use pastel-colored mini eggs for an extra festive Easter look.
