Description

This Classic Spaghetti Bolognese with a Secret Twist is the ultimate Italian comfort food. A hearty, slow-simmered meat sauce infused with red wine and a surprising dash of cinnamon brings warmth and depth to every bite. Perfect for weeknight dinners or family gatherings, this saucy pasta dish is a must-try for any pasta lover.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 carrot, finely diced

  • 1 celery stalk, finely diced

  • 1 lb ground beef (or half beef/half pork)

  • 1/4 cup tomato paste

  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes

  • 1/2 cup red wine (optional)

  • 1/2 cup beef broth

  • 1 tsp dried oregano

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (the secret twist!)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 12 oz spaghetti

  • Fresh basil or oregano, for garnish

  • Grated Parmesan, to serve

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Sauté onion, garlic, carrot, and celery for 5–7 minutes until softened and aromatic.

  2. Add ground meat and cook until fully browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary.

  3. Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1 minute. Add crushed tomatoes, red wine (if using), beef broth, oregano, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.

  4. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Simmer uncovered for 30–40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.

  5. Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  6. Toss cooked pasta with the Bolognese sauce until well coated.

  7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil or oregano and a generous sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

Notes

  • The red wine adds richness, but you can omit it for a family-friendly version.

  • The dash of cinnamon is subtle but enhances the depth of the sauce beautifully.

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days—flavors get even better!
