For the Sandwich:
- 4 slices of thick-cut bread (brioche or white bread)
- 2 slices turkey breast
- 2 slices ham
- 2 slices Swiss cheese
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter (for frying)
- Powdered sugar (for garnish)
For the Fries:
- 2 medium russet potatoes, cut into fries
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
For Serving:
- 1/4 cup raspberry jam (for dipping)
Instructions
Prepare the Fries:
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Toss fries in oil, salt, and black pepper.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
Assemble the Sandwich:
- Lay out two slices of bread. Add one slice of Swiss cheese, followed by ham, turkey, and another slice of Swiss cheese.
- Top with the remaining slices of bread and press gently to form a sandwich.
Make the Batter:
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, and Dijon mustard.
Cook the Monte Cristo:
- Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Dip the sandwich into the egg mixture, coating both sides.
- Fry for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
Serve:
- Slice the sandwich in half, dust with powdered sugar, and serve with crispy fries and raspberry jam for dipping. Enjoy!
Notes
- For a slightly sweeter version, add a drizzle of honey on top of the sandwich.
- You can use any bread, but brioche adds a nice, buttery flavor to the sandwich.
- If you prefer a lighter version, you can bake the sandwich instead of frying.
