Description

A crispy, golden-brown Monte Cristo sandwich filled with turkey, ham, and melted Swiss cheese, dusted with powdered sugar and served with a side of fries and raspberry jam for dipping.


Ingredients

For the Sandwich:
  • 4 slices of thick-cut bread (brioche or white bread)
  • 2 slices turkey breast
  • 2 slices ham
  • 2 slices Swiss cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter (for frying)
  • Powdered sugar (for garnish)
For the Fries:
  • 2 medium russet potatoes, cut into fries
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
For Serving:

 

  • 1/4 cup raspberry jam (for dipping)

Instructions

Prepare the Fries:
  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Toss fries in oil, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
Assemble the Sandwich:
  1. Lay out two slices of bread. Add one slice of Swiss cheese, followed by ham, turkey, and another slice of Swiss cheese.
  2. Top with the remaining slices of bread and press gently to form a sandwich.
Make the Batter:
  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, and Dijon mustard.
Cook the Monte Cristo:
  1. Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Dip the sandwich into the egg mixture, coating both sides.
  3. Fry for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
Serve:

  1. Slice the sandwich in half, dust with powdered sugar, and serve with crispy fries and raspberry jam for dipping. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For a slightly sweeter version, add a drizzle of honey on top of the sandwich.
  • You can use any bread, but brioche adds a nice, buttery flavor to the sandwich.
