Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Donuts:

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 3/4 cup (150g) sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

For the Chocolate Glaze:

  • 1 1/2 cups (180g) confectioners’ sugar
  • 4 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp milk (add more if needed for smoothness)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Prepare the Donuts:

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a donut pan with non-stick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Add buttermilk, eggs, and melted butter. Mix until just combined—do not overmix.
  4. Fill each donut pan cavity about ⅔ full (do not overfill).
  5. Bake for 7-9 minutes or until the tops spring back when lightly pressed.
  6. Let cool in the pan for 4-5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

2. Make the Chocolate Glaze:

  1. In a medium bowl, sift together confectioners’ sugar and cocoa powder.
  2. Using an electric mixer, slowly add milk and vanilla, beating on low speed until smooth and pourable.

3. Glaze the Donuts:

  1. Gently dip one side of each donut into the chocolate glaze.
  2. Place on parchment paper and let the glaze set.
  3. Serve fresh and enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon to the batter.
  • No buttermilk? Use ¾ cup whole milk mixed with 1 tbsp vinegar or lemon juice. Let sit for 5 minutes before using.
  • Want more toppings? Sprinkle with crushed nuts, sprinkles, or coconut before the glaze sets.
  • Storage Tip: Best enjoyed fresh, but you can store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
