Description

Tender, seasoned pork slices wrapped in fluffy pita with tomatoes, onions, crispy fries, and creamy tzatziki for the ultimate Greek street food experience.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb pork shoulder or pork loin, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 4 Greek-style pita breads
  • 1/2 cup tzatziki sauce
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup fresh parsley, chopped

  • 1 cup French fries, freshly fried or baked

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix olive oil, oregano, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and lemon juice.
  2. Add pork slices to the marinade and toss to coat. Cover and marinate for at least 30 minutes (or overnight for best flavor).
  3. Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the pork slices for 3-4 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
  4. Warm pita breads in a dry pan or oven for a few seconds until soft and pliable.
  5. Assemble gyros by spreading tzatziki sauce on each pita.
  6. Add cooked pork, sliced tomatoes, red onions, fresh parsley, and crispy French fries.
  7. Wrap tightly in parchment paper or foil and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use pork shoulder for a more tender, juicy texture.
  • Swap pork for chicken or lamb for variety.

  • Serve with extra tzatziki and a side of Greek salad.
